Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, soldier. Ohio native. Son of William T. Bascom and Emily Bascom. Resident of Franklin County, Ohio, in 1850. Graduate of Norwich University in Northfield, Washington County, Vermont in 1860. Served as aid-de-camp, Ohio Volunteers (U.S.A), as a captain from April 23, 1861 to August 15, 1861. Served as an assistant adjutant general of volunteers (U.S.A.) as a captain, major, and lieutenant colonel from August 20, 1861 through December 31, 1865.
