As a vacancy exists in this Regiment as Colonel= we the undersigned officers of said Regiment do Resptly petition your Exciellency to Commission Lt Col Silas Adams as Colonel of the 1^st Ky Cav vice Col Wolford out of service. Col Adams is so well known as as Cavalry officer. he needs no recommendation from us, a like petition was sent you some time since, but we have heard nothing from it. Our Regiment numbers over one Thousand men, and ~~are~~ is entitled to all the officers allowed a Cavalry Regiment.

I have copied this from the original petition signed by every officer, And I Certify that we have on the Regimental Rolls over one thousand men, we have here in the front over five hundred men mounted Twice as many as any other Cavalry Regiment in Genl Stoneman's Command. we need more field officers in the Regiment. Col Adams is Commanding a Brigade. Major Owens is a prisoner. Maj Drye is at home wounded and we have only one Field officer with the Regiment.
