We the undersigned being the Jury in the case of the Commonwealth against Leroy D King for Killing James Lackey State that said killing took place according to the evidence immediately after Lackey had pulled out his privates and threatened to have carnal intercourse with Kings wife who was proven to be a decent modest woman of good character. We found a verdict against King as guilty of manslaughter and two years confinement in the penitentiary under the imperative instruction of the court against our unaimous opinions & feelings of the Justice of the case. We all being of the opinion that King did just what we would have done under the same circumstances and what any honest high minded man would have done. We do not think that King should be punished at and therefore unanimously petition the Govenor to pardon him immediately before he leaves the Madison jail 19^th March 1862 The verdict was rendered with an understanding that this petition would be signed by all of
the Jury & the verdict never would have been rendered but upon that condition The case was this day tried in the Madison Circuit Court 19^th March 1862
