Covington Ky. Decr 26^th 1861
To His Excellency the Governor of Ky,
Dear Sir,

Your Petitioner Wm Boswell would respectfully represent, that at the present term of the Kenton Circuit Court in Covington he was fined in the sum of $50⁰⁰ on the charge of selling whiskey to a miner named Garrett Wilson, He states that the only witness in the case was the s^d Wilson. that the testimony was that he ^(Wilson)^ had purchased whiskey of the barkeeper of s^d Boswell who ~~is a~~ was a tavern keeper, who stated that about Christmas 1860. ~~but on X examination that he could not say that it was later that august 1860~~, he bought whiskey of the barkeeper then. The barkeeper was an old man, and has left the Comth. The Indictment was found sept 14^th 1861, He further states that he keeps an orderly house, and has never been convicted of any violation of law before. and has kept a public house in this city for 4 years or thereabouts. He states that he always gives his barkeepers particular instructions as to the laws in this case and others
He states that the witness wWilson has the appearance of being at least 25 years of age, and has been for years doing business for himself as was in proof boarding with his father and paying his board as a stranger, his father (notoriously) claiming no control over him. He therefore prays your Excellency to remit by pardon, as an act of Executive Clemency the s^d fine so far as the same can be done by your Excellency, and as in duty bound will ever pray,

We join in the above petition and believe this a worthy case for the interference of Executive Clemency, Mr. Boswell keeps an orderly house. is a sober and correct man. is also laboring under bodily afflictions being crippled in one (the right) hand

The witness against the above petitioner appeared to me to be at least 25 years of age. I know Mr Boswell is ever scrupulously careful. not to violate law. and think the above fine really a hardship, and this case a worthy one for the interference of Executive Clemency 10 of the Jurors ^who [...] & the Comlth Atty Mr Arthur^ have signed his petition
