EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT.

To His Excellency the Governor of the State of Kentucky

Sir: It has been made known to me that a certain John W. Scales, of our County of Williamson, stands charged with having, in the month of September, 1865, with having committed the crime of murder as will more fully appear from an authenticated copy of a states warrant herewith transmitted: And whereas, it has been made known to me that the said John W. Scales has fled from justice, and is now running at large in the State of Kentucky:

Now, Therefore, I, William G. Brownlow, Governor of the State of Tennessee, in pursuance of the Act of Congress, entitled "An Act respecting Fugitives from Justice," do hereby demand that your Excellency will please cause the said John W. Scales to be arrested, if to be found within the limits of the State over which you preside, and have him safely delivered to Henry Clark, who is appointed Agent on the part of this State to receive the said fugitive from the civil authorities of the State of Kentucky, to the end that he may be brought to the State of Tennessee and dealt with according to law.

In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the Great Seal of the State to be affixed, at Nashville, on the 28^th day of October, 1865.

To any lawful Officer of the State Information on oath having been made to me that the offence of murder has ^been^ committed on the body of A S. Oglevie ^on the 16^th day of Sept 1865^ and accusing John W. Scales thereof you are therefore commanded in the name of the State Forthwith to arrest Said Scales and bring him before me or some other magistrate of Said county to answer the charge given under my hand and Seal this ^the^ 17 day of Sept 1865

After being dewly Sworn I deputise David Ralston To Execute this writ as an officer

Smith, whose genuine signature appears to the foregoing Warrant, is and was at the time signing the same, an acting Justice of the Peace, in and for said County, duly elected commissioned and qualified; and that full faith and credit are due his official acts.

FLETCHER, Secretary for the State of Tennessee, do hereby certify that W^m Cummins, whose official signature is subscribed to the above certificate, and whose seal of office clerk &c is affixed thereto, was at the time the same were so subscribed and affixed, a legally elected, qualified, and commissioned Clerk for the County of Williamson in said State of Tennessee.
