To His Excellency Thomas E Bramlette Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Your Petitioner Willis Bunton would respictfully represent unto your Excellency that at the February Term of the ~~Laurel Circuit~~ Rockcastle circuit court 1865 He was fined twenty dollars for Illegal gaming He says the game of cards for which he was indicted was played by him & others and the Persons beaten were to pay for the oysters and did buy some two or three cans of Oysters which had been wagered on the game they were intending to have the oysters anyhow & played the game merely for amusement But the understanding was when they set down to play the game that those beaten were to pay the cost of the oysters There was no money bet on the game & if your Petitioner had known that it could have been construed into Illegal gaming he would not have played for he is not a gambler Says he is a poor man and not a violater of Law wherefore He prays your Excellency will remit said fine for which he will ever feel greatful
