The undersigned would respectfully represent to your Excellency that John. J. Huffman against whom an indictment was found at the present term of the ^Garrard Cir Ct^ and for which Judgment was confessed in the sum of $300, ~~han --~~ for permitting persons to tipple and drink more than was necessary at his bar, has kept an orderly house and while instances of persons drinking too much may have occured occasionally at his bar -- we are satisfied that the same was done contrary to his inclinations and we know of his often refusing when present to permit any thing of the Kind and such instances as did occur were such as could not well be avoided under the circumstances. There is not in the state a more orderly or genteel Hotel kept in the state of Kentucky We hope therefore your excellency will remit the fine as we know Mr Huffman had no intention or desire to commit any offense or violate the law.

I freely concur in the statements of the petitioners herein and am free to state that I boarded at Mr Huffmans twelve months or [remaining] through that space of time and I know that Huffman has kept not only a good house but much more orderly. than usual with hotels, I hope you will grant the request of him & petitioners

We concur in the statements of the foregoing Petition. have been stopping with J J Huffman for years, and am Satisfied that he has kept and now keeps one of the best & most quietly arranged & orderly Hotels in the State of Kentucky
