Covington Ky March 29^th 1864
To His Excellency Governor Bramlett

Your petitioner would respectfully represent to your Honour, that at the present session of the Kenton Circuit Court he was fined the sum of $200.⁰⁰/₁₀₀ Keeping a gambling house. but upon the proof it was assertained that some young men came in and played for a treat and after they had played the Liquor was bought and paid for by the looser & this was all of the case and under the instructions of the court he was found as above,

He further states that at the same time on the same day and by the same jury he was fined fifty dollars for selling in his Tavern Liquor to a Minor who Swore that he had a berd 2 inches long whin he purcharsed the Liquor, where fore your Petitioner in prays that your Honour would, use your Clemency remit so much of the said fine as you are authorised to do, and your petitioner will Everpray

We the undersigned were on the jury that tried the case of the Com'w'th vs Peter Merigan and respectfully join him in his Petition as above, as We believe he did not intend to violate the Law in Either case wherefore we join in the above Petition

The proof in the cases referred to is substantially Stated in the petition and the jurors with one exception have Signed the petition -- The defendant is a poor man and the amount of the two fines is a large sum for him to pay He is a German and has a little country Tavern and upon the whole I think the fines should be remitted
