Esteemed Friend,

I recd your Kind Letter yesterday & Hasten to answer & would of answered Sooner but wished to Get Some moore infromation before wrighting which I have done,, I was in marrion to day I had an inter view with Capt Dowell he Says he is waiting an answer from the Governor of this State in regard to the matter he Says he is not informed as to the time that the Company is to be made for or the amount of pay &C to be drawn rations &C & that you had written to the Governer on the Subject & that he was or is Looking for an answer Evry day he allso Says that he has he has bin ~~wrighting~~ Rideing around & feels safe in Saying that he can rase 100 men in One Week he Says his [...] & the Lives of Others threatned Leander Hughs was Shot at the Other Knight 6 times near Marion James [Crull] [...] [C Crull] W^m & Mage Clements & 16 others of Like Charactor have bin notifyed throu the Post office to Leave the
Country or Suffer death & all those that associate with them this Order Extends to Freedmen including Bird Crider Dr Johnson & C. Singleton Hodge thinks R. F. Dowell is afraide to do any thing

Capt S. B. Wallace of Union County has made his Company draw his arms & is now ready for action one of his men in now at my house= Something must be done & that Soon & his reasoning that is Capt Dowell may be Good but if he does not act Soon we must have Some one else that will act.

Capt Belt is now or has bin Corrected & held to bale in the Sum of 500 dollars for Kidnaping Lieut Guess and bringing him to Ky Belt must be protected if you Can I will be going up the river Soon the Latter part of this week or the first of next and will call at Henderson as I want to See you= answer this by return male

P S,, Dec 12th I red your communication this morning & forwarded the paper to Capt Belt & will forward tomorrow the papers to Marion to Mr Walker I learn this mornin that W^m Knight is in Princeton Jale if so attend to him ~~if Mr~~ ~~Belt~~ ~~Kneed any~~

I would ask permission to say that my understanding was that no pay was to be given to either officer or Soldier in this company And I am informed that Capt Belt is now loud in defaming the Union party
