The office of the military officer in charge of “the better organization of the Militia, and the collection and preservation of the public arms and other property” and to “convene a court of inquiry to examine into the qualifications of persons holding any office in the Active Militia, or in the Active Reserves; and in the Enrolled Militia when in the service of the State.” Resides in the Executive Branch of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Civil War-era inspectors general: Simon Bolivar Buckner (1860-1861); unoccupied (1861-1863); Daniel W. Lindsey (1863-1865); William H. Hays (1865); and James T. Bramlette (1865-1866).
