Logan County, Kentucky, attorney, farmer, and soldier. Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky, native. Son of Robert Burbridge and Elizabeth Barnes Burbridge. Married to Elizabeth "Lizzie" M. Burbridge. Father of Albert G. Burbridge, Maggie L. Burbridge, and Lizzie Burbridge. Attended Georgetown College in Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky. Read law with Senator Garrett Davis in Bourbon County . Attended the Frankfort Military Institute. Merchant in Georgetown, District of Columbia, from 1849 to 1853. Farmer in Logan County, Kentucky, in 1860. Owned seven enslaved persons in Logan County in 1860. Served in 26th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a colonel from August 1861 to June 1862. Promoted to brigadier general of Volunteers on June 9, 1862. Brevetted major general of Volunteers on July 4, 1864. Commander of the Military District of Kentucky in the Department of the Ohio from August 1864 to February 1865. Resigned on December 1, 1865.
