Hamilton County, Ohio, attorney, soldier, and court clerk. New York City. native. Son of Nicholas Townsend Horton and Sarah Van Orden Horton. Married to Sarah Virginia Yeatman Horton in Hamilton County, Ohio, on April 18, 1858. Father of W. Y. Horton, Eva A. Horton, and Alice T. Horton. Resident of Cincinnati in 1832. Attended school in Cincinnati in 1850. Graduated from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, in 1852. Admitted to the bar in 1854. Attorney in Hamilton County, Ohio, in 1860. Employed Rebecca Dickson as a servant in Hamilton County in 1860. Served in the 24th Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a first lieutenant and captain from December 20, 1861, to June 10, 1863. Wounded at the Battle of Stones River, Rutherford County, Tennessee in January 1863. Clerk of the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas in 1865.
