Dearborn County, Indiana, farmer and soldier. Indiana native. Son of Conrad Hoffman and Elizabeth Hoffman. Married to Ann Webster. Father of Emmarietta Hoffman, Oliver Hoffman, Alex Hoffman, Ida Hoffman, Mary Jane Hoffman, and Ellen Hoffman. Farmer in Dearborn County, Indiana, in 1850. Farmer in Dearborn County in 1860. Served in the 11th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a first sergeant and second lieutenant from September 22, 1862, to July 15, 1865. Captured at the Battle of Hartsville, Sumner County, Tennessee, on December 7, 1862. Paroled on December 10, 1862.
