Adams County, Illinois, farmer and soldier. Kentucky native. Son of Preston Neal and Emily Neal. Married to Mary E. Monroe Neal in Butler County, Kentucky, on April 5, 1863. Father of Loretta Neal. Attended school in Adams County, Illinois, in 1850. Farmer in Adams County in 1860. Served in the 11th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a first sergeant, first lieutenant, and captain, from December 9, 1864, to January 13, 1864.
