Twenty-seventh Governor of the State of Ohio, attorney, politician, stock raiser, and soldier. Jefferson County, Kentucky, native. Son of Richard Clough Anderson and Sarah Marshall Anderson. Married Eliza J. Brown Anderson in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, on September 16, 1865. Father of Latham Anderson, Kitty Anderson, and Bell Anderson. Graduated from Miami University in Butler County, Ohio, in 1833. Served in the Senate of the State of Ohio from Montgomery County in 1844. Attorney in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, in 1850. Stock raiser in Bexar County, Texas, in 1860. Owned one enslaved person in Bexar County in 1860. Served in the 93rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a colonel from August 25, 1862, to February 21, 1863. Wounded at the Battle of Stone's River, Rutherford County, Tennessee. Resigned on February 21, 1863. Served as Lieutenant Governor of the State of Ohio from 1864 to 1865. Served as Acting Governor of the State of Ohio from 1865 to 1866.
