Pike County, Kentucky, merchant and soldier. Virginia native. Married to Ann Rattiff Dils in Pike County, Kentucky, on November 6, 1842. Father of Georgia Ann Dils, Mary E. Dils, Augusta Dils, L. C. Dils, and John R. A. Dils. Merchant in Pike County in 1850. Merchant in Pike County in 1860. Owned four enslaved persons in Pike County in 1860. Arrested by Confederate forces and held prisoner at Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia, in 1861. Served in the 39th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as colonel from January 21, 1863, to December 10, 1863. Dishonorably discharged on December 10, 1863.
