Kalamazoo County, Michigan, carpenter, peace officer, and soldier. Washington County, Vermont, native. Son of Samuel Orcutt and Mary Orcutt. Married to Emily A. Swadel Orcutt on October 24, 1856. Father of of William Orcutt, Benjamin F. Orcutt, and Frank B. Orcutt. Resident of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, in 1837. Elected constable in Kalamazoo County in 1841. Served as a sergeant and first sergeant in the 1st Michigan Volunteer Infantry during the Mexican-American War from 1847-1848. Carpenter in Kalamazoo in 1850. Deputy U.S. Marshall in Kalamazoo before 1854. Elected Sheriff of Kalamazoo County in 1854. Carpenter in Kalamazoo in 1860. Served in the 25th Michigan Volunteer Infantry (U.S.A.) as a lieutenant colonel from September 22, 1862 to June 24, 1865.
