Student in East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, in 1850. Graduate of Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport. Attorney in Washington County, Mississippi, in 1861. Commissioner of Deeds for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in Washington County in 1861. Served in the 28th Mississippi Cavalry Regiment (C.S.A.) as lieutenant colonel and second lieutenant from 1861 to August 15, 1863. Served in Ferguson's Brigade (C.S.A.) as captain and assistant adjutant general from August 15, 1863, to February 18, 1865.
