Lyon County, Kentucky, laborer and soldier. Kentucky native. Son of James Patterson and Nancy Patterson. Student in Caldwell County in 1850. Laborer in Lyon County, Kentucky, in 1860. Served in the 1st Kentucky Cavalry Regiment (C.S.A.) as a private from October 1861 to May 22, 1865. Captured at Lyon County on December 23, 1862. Prisoner of war at Camp Chase, Ohio from January 10, 1863 to March 28, 1863. Exchanged by order of Colonel William Hoffman in 1863. Signed a loyalty oath to the U. S. government on May 22, 1865
