Mercer County, Kentucky, notary public and soldier. Louisville, Kentucky, native. Son of Thomas Chenoweth and Nancy T. Passmore Chenoweth. Married to Scotia M. Inskeep Chenoweth. Student in Mercer County, Kentucky, in 1850. Graduate of Indiana Asbury University in Greencastle, Indiana, in 1860. Student in Mercer County in 1860. Appointed notary public for Mercer County on March 13, 1861. Served in Bennett's Tennessee Cavalry Battalion (C.S.A.) as drillmaster from 1861 to 1862. Wounded in action at the Battle of Shiloh. Mustered in as major in the 1st Kentucky Cavalry Regiment (C.S.A.) on September 2, 1862. Wounded in action at the Battle of Chickamauga. Appointed colonel and raised the 16th (Chenoweth's) Kentucky Cavalry Regiment (C.S.A.) on September 6, 1864. Surrendered in Paris, Tennessee, on May 4, 1865. Signed a loyalty oath to the U.S. government on May 12, 1865.
