Overton County, Tennessee, farmer and soldier. Tennessee native. Son of Stephen Vaughan and Delany Vaughan. Married to Amanda Vaughan. Father of James M. Vaughan, William J. Vaughan, Irvin Vaughan, Lee Ann Vaughan, and Henry Vaughan. Farmer and student in Overton County, Tennessee, in 1850. Farmer in Overton County in 1860. Served in Shaw's Battalion Tennessee Cavalry (C.S.A.) as a private. Captured at Columbia, Kentucky, on September 2, 1863. Signed a loyalty oath to the U.S. government on October 14, 1863. Served in the 1st Kentucky Light Artillery Regiment (U.S.A.) as private from October 8, 1863. Reported as deserted from Camp Nelson, Kentucky, on January 30, 1864.
