Nelson County, Kentucky, apprentice carpenter and soldier. Kentucky native. Son of Henry H. Simpson and Frances E. O'Bryan Simpson. Student in Nelson County in 1850. Apprentice carpenter in Nelson County in 1860. Served in the 8th Kentucky Cavalry Regiment (C.S.A.) as a private. Captured at Buffington, Ohio, on July 19, 1862. Prisoner of war in Camp Douglas from August 22, 1863, to February 24, 1865. Transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, on February 24, 1865.
