Knox County, Kentucky, soldier. Kentucky native. Son of Robert Dowis and Nancy Dowis. Resident of Knox County, Kentucky, in 1850. Resident of Knox County in 1860. Served in the 7th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as private, first sergeant, second lieutenant, and first lieutenant from September 22, 1861, to May 8, 1864.
