Massachusetts soldier and assistant surgeon general of the U.S. Army. Maine native. Son of Samuel Dunster and Susan Down Dunster. Married to Rebecca Morgan Sprole Dunster on November 4, 1863. Graduated from Harvard College in 1856 (BA) and 1859 (MA). Graduated from New York College of Medicine and Surgery in March 1859. Physician in New York, New York, in 1860. Served in the United States Army as assistant surgeon general from August 5, 1861, to February 1, 1866.
