Boyle County, Kentucky soldier. Kentucky native. Son of Thomas P. Young and Mary E. Young. Served in the 4th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as first corporal and second lieutenant from October 9, 1861, to May 15, 1865. Captured in Georgia by Confederate forces on July 30, 1864, and escaped at Columbia, South Carolina, in November 1864.
