Kentucky politician, judge, and soldier. New Jersey native. Married to Hannah Lee Taylor Chambers. Father of Margaret Taylor Chambers, Joseph Sprigg Chambers, Hannah Lee Chambers, James Chambers, Matilda Chambers, Francis Taylor Chambers, Jane Chambers, Mary Chambers, Laura Chambers, John Chambers, James Chambers, Henry Chambers, and Lucretia Chambers. Member of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1812 to 1815 and 1830 to 1831. Served as major and aide to General William Henry Harrison during the War of 1812. Judge of the Court of Appeals of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1825 to 1827. Replaced Thomas Metcalfe in the United States House of Representatives in December 1828 until 1829. Whig member of the United States House of Representatives from Kentucky from 1835 to 1839. Second governor of Iowa Territory from 1841 to 1845.
