Bath County, Kentucky, soldier. Kentucky native. Son of Joseph Thomas Swetnam and Mary “Polly” Atchison Swetnam. Student in Bath County in 1850. Household owned five enslaved persons in Bath County in 1850. Served in Captain Bussey’s Bath County Rangers as a first lieutenant from December 11, 1863, to April 1, 1864. Served in the First Regiment Capital Guards, Frankfort Battalion, as a first lieutenant from February 1, 1864, to his resignation on July 14, 1864.
