Louisville, Kentucky, soldier. Highland County, Ohio native. Married to Elizabeth Travis. Father of Jane Travis, Charles Travis, and Strother Travis. Draughtsman in 1857. Teacher in 1863. Served in the 7th U.S. Regular Infantry from April 1857 to June 1858. Served in the 1st Kentucky Light Artillery, Battery "B" as a private from December 14, 1863 to October 1864. Served in the 121st U. S. Colored Heavy Artillery Regiment as captain from April 18, 1864 to January 10, 1865. Served in the 123rd U. S. Colored Troops as captain from January 15, 1865 to June 3, 1865.
