Ohio, manufacturer and soldier. Springfield, Ohio native. Son of Ebenezer Buckingham and Catherine Putnam Buckingham. Married to Marina Buckingham. Attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio in 1822. Graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1829. Served in the U.S. Army as second lieutenant from 1829 to 1832. Taught mathematics and natural philosophy at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio from 1833 to 1835. Manufactured machinery at the Kokosing Iron Works in Mount Vernon, Ohio from 1849 to 1861. Served as commissary general for the state of Ohio to July 1, 1861. Served as adjutant general for the state of Ohio from July 1, 1861 to April 1862. Served in the Union Army as brigadier general at the War Department in Washington, D.C. from April 1862 to February 1863.
