Painesville, Lake County, Ohio, attorney. Ohio native. Son of Peter Hitchcock and Nabby Cowles. Attended Yale University in New Haven, CT. Married to Sarah Marshall Hitchcock in 1834. Father of Peter Hitchcock, Eliza Hitchcock, Edward Hitchcock, and Hellen H. Hitchcock. Admitted to the bar in 1830. Judge of Common Pleas from 1851 to 1855. Vice president of the Cleveland and Mahoning Railroad. Special commissioner to review the cases of political prisoners incarcerated at Camp Chase, Ohio, from August 13, 1862, to October 30, 1862.
