Louisa, Kentucky, attorney and soldier. New York native. Studied law with L.T. Moore in Louisa. Married to Rebecca A. Moore Gallup. Father of Henry M. Gallup and Frederick G. Gallup. Farmer in Venice, New York, in 1850. Entered law partnership with L.T. Moore in Louisa. Attorney in Louisa in 1860. Owned one enslaved person in Louisa in 1860. Served in 14th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry as regimental quarter-master from December 10, 1861, until May 11, 1862, when he was promoted to lieutenant colonel, then promoted to colonel on January 13, 1863. Mustered out on January 31, 1865. Brevetted brigadier general on March 13, 1865.
