Lexington, Kentucky, soldier. Lexington native. Son of Spencer Cooper and Mary H. Cooper. Married Sarah Steele Venable Cooper. Father of Wickliffe Cooper. Graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, in 1851. Resident of Lexington, Fayette County, Kentucky, in 1860. Served in the 20th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a lieutenant from January 24, 1862 to April 13, 1863. Served in the 4th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a colonel from May 29, 1863 to August 21, 1865.
