Green County, Kentucky, attorney, county court clerk, and soldier. Green Countty native. Son of George W. Towles and Frances Towles. Married to Martha A. Montgomery Towles in 1851. Father of Elizabeth F. Towles, Sallie E. Towles, Lucy C. Towles, and Benjamin F. Towles. Educated in the common schools and at St. Mary's College in Marion County, Kentucky. Served in the 2nd Kentucky Infantry Regiment as a private during the U.S.-Mexican War from June 1846 to June 1847. Teacher in the Green County public schools from 1847 to 1853. Law student in Green County in 1850. Attorney in Green County in 1853. Assessor of Green County from 1856 to 1860. Attorney in Green County in 1860. Served in the 13th Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a captain from December 30, 1861 to April 12, 1862. Clerk of the Green County Court from 1862 to 1874.
