Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, physician and soldier. Philadelphia native. Son of John Yarrow and Caroline Crecy Yarrow. Married to Anna Provand Dryburgh on April 10, 1862. Father of John Yarrow. Received early education in Philadelphia private schools and in Geneva, Switzerland. Studied medicine under Dr. J. L. Ludlow and J. J. Woodward. Graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1861. Practived medicine in Philadelphia in 1861. Medical examiner of recruits in 1861. Assistant surgeon in the 5th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry Regiment ("Cameron Dragoons") from July 1861 to January 1862. Acting Assistant Surgeon of United State Volunteers and served as the Executive Officer of the Broad and Cherry Street United States Army Hospital in Philadelphia from 1862 to 1866. Founding member of the Hardwick Oil Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1864.
