Covington, Kentucky, tobacconist and soldier. Kentucky native. Married to Narcissa Bowen. Father of Mary E. Bowen. Corporal in the 4th Michigan Infantry Regiment. Second and first lieutenant of the 15th Michigan Infantry. Captain of the 11th Michigan Cavalry in August 1863. Major and Brevet Lieutenant Colonel of the 6th United States Colored Cavalry Regiment from November 1864 to April 1866. Acting Assistant Adjutant General and Acting Assistant Inspector General for the 1st Division of the Department of Kentucky in 1865.
