Breckinridge County, Kentucky, attorney and politician. Kentucky native. Son of Joseph Allen and Margaret Crawford Allen. Married to Mary E. Jennings in 1853. Father of Horace Allen and Mary Allen. Member of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from Breckinridge County from 1838 to 1839 and 1861 to 1866. Commonwealth's attorney for the 1st Judicial District of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1839 to 1856. Unsuccessful candidate for lieutenant governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, on Joshua F. Bell's ticket, in 1859. Attorney in Breckinirdge County in 1860. Recruited five companies of the 27th Kentucky Regiment Volunteer Infantry in 1861.
