Kentucky, Mississippi, and Louisiana, physician and special envoy. Woodford County, Kentucky, native. Married to Ella Boswell Blackburn. Graduated from the Medical Department at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky in 1835. Physician in Lexington. Member of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1843 to 1845. Physician in Frankfort, Kentucky, in 1844. Moved to Natchez, Mississippi, in 1847. Physician in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1858. Special envoy representing Governor Beriah Magoffin in New Orleans to purchase arms and ammunition in 1861. Aide-de-camp for Sterling Price in Mississippi. Appointed by Mississippi Governor John J. Pettus to relocate the military casualties in the state. Traveled to Canada in August 1863, to smuggle items through the blockade into the Confederacy.
