Carter County, Tennessee, soldier and sheriff. Married to Mary R. Miller. Father of Sarah Alice Miller, Priscilla Miller, Kossuth D. Miller, and Rachel E. Miller. Sheriff of Carter County in 1860. Colonel of the 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) from October 1863 to November 1865. Commanded the 3rd Brigade Cavalry Division of the Tennessee Governor’s Guard from April 1864 to November 1865. Court martialed in September 1865, which was disapproved by the President of the United States in January 1866. Ordered reinstated and mustered out November 20, 1865.
