Married to Elizabeth Owsley Anderson Boyle in Garrard County, Kentucky, on October 18, 1842. Father of William Owsley Boyle, John H. J. Boyle, Clayton J. Boyle, Henry B. Boyle, Amelia Boyle, and J. Tilford Boyle, Jr. Attended Centre College in Danville. Graduated from the College of New Jersey at Princeton, New Jersey. Attended Transylvania School of Law in Lexington, Kentucky.
