Father of Richard F. Jacob and Elizabeth B. Jacob. Married to Laura Wilson Jacob on June 15, 1865. Studied law under Nathaniel Wolfe in Louisville, Kentucky, from 1845 to 1846. Served in the United States Army as a captain during the U.S.-Mexican War. Farmer in Cooper County, Missouri, in 1850. Owned twelve enslaved persons in Cooper County in 1850. Member of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from Oldham County from 1859 to 1863. Farmer in Oldham County, Kentucky, in 1860. Owned twelve enslaved persons in Oldham County in 1860. Presidential elector for John C. Breckinridge in 1860. Served in the 9th Kentucky Volunteer Cavalry Regiment (U.S.A.) as a colonel from August 22, 1862 to August 21, 1863. Lieutenant governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky under Governor Thomas E. Bramlette from 1863 to 1867. Arrested in Kentucky for discouraging the enlistment of African Americans in the United States Colored Troops in November 1864. Exiled to Richmond, Virginia, from November 1864 to January 1865.
