Frankfort, Kentucky, attorney, planter, and legislator. Louisville native. Son of Larz Anderson and Catherine Longworth Anderson. Married to Agnes Norval Anderson. Father of Kate L. Anderson, Sally Anderson, and Richard C. Anderson, IV. Graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, in 1849. Studied law at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Farmer in Franklin County, Kentucky, in 1860. Owned twenty-three enslaved people in Franklin County in 1860. Member of the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Kentucky from Franklin County from 1861 to 1863.
