Dear Sir

In response to the request of the adjutant Gen^l of Ky., I write to recommend Tho^s B Cochran as a suitable person for Col in this County (Shelby)

He served upward of one year in Boards Cavalry as Lieut Col. resigned because of bad health, his health is now restored and he will serve, his experience is worth a great deal. He is a ^good^ lawyer of this place, clear headed & sound as a dollar. I begged him to accept the place. He consented to do so at my most urgent solicitation.

I want none but loyal, brave sober men on guard, & would not recomend any other sort to you for appointment.
