We the undersigned citizens of the County of Bath State of Ky, beg leave to represent unto your Excellency. the highly satisfactory manner, both as an officer and gentleman, in which Col Edwards of the 1st Ky Scouts, has conducted, affairs in this County, Since his arrival and sojourn among us- When he came, our Country was infested by Guerrillas and robbers — Citizens were Herrassed and anoyed by the soldiery, but since his administration here and his disipline he has brought order out of Chaos- he has made us feel perfecly secure in our persons and property, a blessing that has been denied us since this cruel war began, And we have full Confidence, that he will ultimately succeed in stopping the many outrages. that the citizens have endured for so long a time (and to use a homely phrase,) We "think he is the right man in the right place,' And in view of these facts we take this method of informing you of our appreciation of his many qualities as an officer and a gentleman, and returning our thanks to you, for sending him among us, bulieving that ultimately he will restore our County ~~to that peace~~ the bessings of peace and quietude, which she has so long been a stranger to,, Again thanking you for your consideration of us We are Very Respectfully Your Obt Srvts &^c
