Sir,

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 15^th inst. requesting that the 12" Kentucky Infantry may be consolidated with the 3^rd Kentucky Cavalry.

In reply, I am directed to inform you that the proposed consolidation is not deemed advisable, the regiments being stationed in different armies: Other similar applications have been received by the Department, and refused for the reasons above stated.
