Shelby County ss

Before the undersigned a Notary Public within and for said County this 9^th day of June 1863 came Thomas Norvell of lawful age who being by me first duly sworn On his Oath says that on the 23^rd day of April 1863 at and in the County of Shelby and state aforesaid One Joseph Purvis late of said County with force and arms, in and upon one Robert Norvell in the peace of the said state and then and there being felloniously wilfully and with malice aforethought did make an assault, and that the said Joseph Purvis with a certain Pistol loaded and charged with gun Powder and one ledden Bullett by the said Joseph Purvis in his right hand then and there had and held to against and upon the said Robert Norvell then and there felloneously wiflfully and of his malice aforethought did shoot and discharge, and that the said Joseph Purvis with the leaden Bullitt aforesaid out of the Pistol aforesaid then and there by force of the gun powder Shot and Sent forth, as aforesaid the said Robert Norvell in and upon the left
side of him the said Robert Norvell between the Ribs and the hip bone of him the said Robert Norvell there and then felloniously wilfully and of his malice aforethought did strike penetrate and wound giving to him the said Robert Norvell then and there being with the leaden Bullitt aforesaid so as aforesaid shot discharged and Sent forth out of the Pistol aforesaid by the said -- Joseph Purvis in and upon the left side of him the said Robert Norvell -- between the ribs and hip bone of him the said Robert Norvell one mortal wound of the depth of Six inches of which mortal wound the said Robert Norvell afterwards died at the County aforesaid so the said Thomas Norvell upon his Oath aforesaid says that the said Joseph ~~Norvell~~Purvis the said Robert Novell in the manner aofresiad, felloneously wilfully and afwith ^his^ malice aforethought did kill and murder against the peace and dignity of the State of Indiana and that the said Joseph Purvis did flee and espcape from the state
Indiana into the State of Kentucky and where he remains a fugitive from Justice
