To His Excellency Ja^s F Robinson Governor of Kentucky

Your Petitioner Stephenson Brydon would respectfully represent that at the Feby Term ^1863^ of the Franklin Circuit Court he was fined the sum of Two [ ] dollars for the offence of keeping a Tipling house. Your petitioner further represents that he is a very poor man & has a large family of children to support that he is an old man and is compeled to support himself and family by his own labor & that if he be required to pay the fine assessed against him The little home all the property that he possesses will be taken from him, The facts in the case are as follows In Sept 1862 the license of Ja^s Sullivan (for whom the ~~Said~~ your petitioner was doing business -- expired, and in the month of August or first of Sept 1862 said Ja^s Sullivan went to Frankfort in company with W C Scott for the purpose of renewing his license to sell liquor by the drink, about this time the Rebels came to Frankfort and the Said Sullivan saw the County Judge who promised him that he would grant him the license, The Rebels entered the city ~~the~~ before the County Judge could grant the license, Said Sullivan The Rebel army being in
the city no business was done, Sullivan & Scott came home ^in^ the Evening of the day that they went to Frankfort & both of them reported to Stephenson Brydon that the county Judge had told them that the license was all right & to grant Ill the Clerk & pay the money & get the license that they Sullivan & Scott went to see the clerk and found him away from his office attending a funeral and that they ~~did not~~ said Brydon who is an ignorant man through the misunderstanding & misconstruction of the language of the said Sullivan went on to sell liquor for Sullivan ignorant of any violation of the law -- These are in Substance the facts and the reason why your petitioner was guilty of and infraction & violation of the law wherefore he prays that Your Excellency will remit so much of said fine as is not due & coming to the officer's of the court,
