To his Excellency the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky

Your petitioner J U, Cayce will state that in the year of -- he obtained from the judge of the County Court of Fulton County a License to keep a Tavern in Fulton County, He was then residing at Cayce's Station on the M. & O. R. N. & the house in which he kept his bar room was a short distance from his Tavern, but not connected by a roof, but which he not only used for a bar, but for Tavern purposes,

He states that at the December 1861 Term of the Fulton Equity Court ^~~for~~^ he was indicted for keeping a Tipling house & at the December term ^1861^ of said Court for ~~reasons~~, for reasons herein after set forth he confessed a judgment upon said indictment --

At the court at which he confessed said judgment he laid his case before the Commonwealth's attorney & stated to him that he had been acting in good faith & that if it was a violation of law to have kept his bar in a house different from his Tavern, he had been labouring under a mistake, & that he had an [...] of making a defence & trying the question, any way, but the Commwlth attorney informed him, that judgment would go against him any how, & that he believed your petitioners case to be a meritorious one,
& that if your petitioner would confess a judgment & pay the fee of the Atty of the Comwlth that he would lay the matter before your honor & that in his opinion the fine would be remited & in this way as in his opinion save petitioner of cost of employment of an attorney, which he thought would not avail any thing,

In consideration of the premises he asks your honor to remit the fine above described.
