Mayfield July 15^th 1862
Gov MaGoffin,

At the February term 1861 of the Graves Equity & Criminal Court a Judgement was rendered on a recognizance taken before a Justice of the peace of the county for the appearance of one [Davies] Powers to answer any presentment which the grand Jury might find against him for a misdemeanor that Judgement we rendered against Alford ~~Lee~~ Lee who was the surety of Powers -- Lee is an honest upright good man but is in very reduced circumstances, the execution is now in the hands of the Sheriff & what little property he has will be sacrificed unless. the Judgment is released -- Powers had before the Judgt left the state & gone over to Tennessee in an adjoining county to this & Lee intended to have him present at the August term succeeding the term of which the Judgt was rendered but these difficulties came on the Country & Powers went into the Army
& left Lee to pay the Judgt which is Two Hundred Dollars we hope you will interpose in the case in behalf of Mr Lee as we feel that it is a case which calls for Executive interposition
