To his excelency Beriah Magoffin
Govenor of the Commonwealth of Ky
Dear Sir

Robert Aecre a citizen of Boone co was indicted by the grand jury of said county at the April term 1861 of the circuit court ^in^ for said county the charge was for selling liquor to a minor in violation of the Statute You are aware from the petition hertofore addressed you in this case numerously signed that at the sept term of the court Acre was fined $50 & costs upon that Indictment The circumstances of the offense are set forth in the petition above referd to which shows that hicks the minor to whom Acre soled the whisky passed in the community for a man of ful age he had so been considered for some years & was so delt with by all And Acre so regarded him & you will see by the petitions addressed you in this class of cases ^by his conduct & appearance [...] [...]^ that Hicks,, fooled nearly all the tavern Keepers in this county & then was brought befor the grandjury to testify against them Now under the circumstances of this case & in view of the heavy
fine imposed which (in view of the present mony preasure) is certainly ~~enormous~~ largely to much for the offense even when committed without palliating circumstances The cost & Atty's fee under the present ~~circumstances~~ ^money crisis^ is a far hevier punishment than the legislature intended to inflict at the thime the ~~the~~ offense was ~~made~~ ^created^ by ^the^ statute

In behalf of Mr Acre I would again call your attention to his case & ask that if consistent with your idea of the merits of the cas, a remit of the said fine said costs & attys fee be granted him
