To His Excellency
The Governor of Kentucky --

Your petitioner Henry C. Galespie states that he was arrested and tried in Febry 1862 on a charge of assaulting Milton [Sterling] in his house and without any positive evidence was convicted before John Bosley Esq a justice of the peace of Washington County, of a breach of the peace and adjudged to pay a fine of $30 and costs and undergo a term of confinement in Jail of 15 days He was not guilty of the charge -- Not having committed at the time, he did not appeal from the finding and shortly afterwards enlisted in the U S volunteer Services which caused his absence until recently when he returned on account of sickness and was arrested and confined in Jail about the 4^th of this month under said judgement and now [remains in] jail -- He is a very poor young man and has a family and being wrongfully imprisoned and now without the means of appeal as he is advised he prays Your Excellency to remit said judgment and release him from Jail --

Dear Sir

Owing to my not having sufficient time before the mail closes I have but few signatures to this petition. but what they lack in number. I think they make up in quality; Doctor Allen and Mr. M^cfatridge were both raised near your old residence. The other two I presume you know by character which is of the most respectable class in the hope that it may suit your Excellencys [view] of justice, to grant the annexed petition of my unfortunate son
